Welcome to Make the Lemonade! What is Make the Lemonade, you ask? It’s my little corner of the web where I will share tips and tricks regarding social media and direct sales businesses.

Where did the name come “Make the Lemonade” come from? The name was actually inspired by Jeff & Nicole Thompson, owners of DotDotSmile. Through their webinars and social media commentary, we’ve often heard them utter the famous quote, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” The two of them (as well as their whole team) are super happy and positive people. What a great motto to live by!

Life happens and can sometimes interfere with your business. I often find myself (as I’m sure you do too) down in the dumps or even worse, ready to give up on my business when things aren’t going the way I think they should. Whenever I reach this point, I stop and reflect on what brought me to the business, WHY I am doing what I do and set new goals. Hence, making lemonade out of lemons!

And now a bit about me…I’m Kim. For my day job (work at home mom), I specialize in helping business owners with social media, marketing, graphic & web design and virtual assistant tasks. I have worked with many entrepreneurs and small business owners over the last 10 years – from salon owners, photographers, and coaches to event planners, make-up artists, and bloggers — helping them streamline their businesses and build the strongest brand possible.

I guess you could say I’ve always been creative at heart. Growing up, I  loved to draw and write stories. I bounced back and forth between being a fashion designer (I was constantly drawing and coloring dresses) or an author (I always made my family read my mini novels) when I grew up.

I was on the yearbook staff for two years in high school. I truly believe this is where my love for design and writing intertwined and shaped me into who I am today. Because of my enjoyment of being on the yearbook staff, I attended the University of Tennessee (GO VOLS!), where I majored in Journalism.

My graphic skills flourished while working at a newspaper after college. I built the majority of graphics and ads for the newspaper, in addition to writing articles. I decided to pursue the world of freelance design after having kids so that I could spend time with my children, while still doing something that I love.

In addition to running this business, I also have a DotDotSmile business! You can find me on Facebook at

On a personal note, I am also an avid reader, writer, photographer and blogger. I have been married to my amazing husband for over nine years and I have four children ranging in ages from 2 – 8 years old. I am currently homeschooling the 4 year old in PreK, the 6 year old in Kindergarten and the 8 year old in 2nd grade.

Thank you for joining me on this blog. I sincerely hope these tutorials, tips and tricks will help you succeed in your business as well!
